Making the new INEOS Grenadier
BUVO Castings is one of the companies involved in the INEOS Grenadier, a brand-new uncompromising off-roader
“Conceived in England, full of German technology, produced in France with Dutch parts”
BUVO Castings was recently awarded the order for multiple assemblies for the INEOS Grenadier. BUVO will start delivering these castings in 2021 and the first production vehicles are expected to roll off the assembly lines at the former Smart factory in the French Hambach in 2022.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of the British petrochemical company INEOS and a lover of the “real off-roaders”, is the man behind this new go-anywhere vehicle. His dream car is suitable for hunters, farmers and adventurers and must be both indestructible and functional. The car has a fit-for-use shape and, as is typically the case with a true off-roader, has wheels at each corner. Anything that doesn’t directly contribute to usability and off-road performance is left out. This briefing led to the birth of the INEOS Grenadier. The technology of the car contributes to achieving out-and-out functionality, indestructibility and adventure capability. Sir Jim Ratcliffe sums it up nicely: ‘The Grenadier project fills a gap in the market that other manufacturers have ignored – the need for a practical off-road vehicle. The team has done a wonderful job in creating a design that is both distinctive and effective.’
BUVO Castings will supply four assemblies for the distinctive “Side Roof Rails”. Further items that will be supplied by the Helmond-based company include the “Split door pin” and the “Pin Counter Part” that are part of the novel rear doors mounted to the INEOS Grenadier. The rear doors of the INEOS Grenadier are considered one of the most important design features of the car. The smart design makes it possible to open the small rear door separately to load and unload small items.
Bart Rouwette, CEO of the high-pressure aluminium die-casting foundry in Helmond, says that he and the team at BUVO are extremely proud of their contribution to these distinctive elements of the new off-roader. “As the Principal Partner and one third shareholder of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team , INEOS operates at the forefront of automotive technology. With investments in industry, consumer brands and sports, INEOS products touch every aspect of modern life. We see it as a great compliment and an honour to partner with INEOS on the Grenadier project.”
